No quick notes as of yet, since not much has happened of significance today. I will, however, get to that thing I mentioned yesterday.
For a long time, I'd been into the scanslation scene. For those of you who don't know what this is, scanslation is the art of taking unlicensed manga and producing english-translated versions of the scanned pages (hence the name scanslation). One of the big up-and-coming groups, Yanime, had some of the best titles around under their belt that they were working on, and I remember always checking out the site to see when the next chapter of a manga was going to be released! Keep in mind that these titled were, indeed, unlicensed at the time, because the manga they worked on included Ichigo 100%, D-Grey Man, Gintama, and many more. These title are now huge in North America, many of them already finding a home in the North American version of Shonen Jump.
For a blast from the past, I decided last night to check out some of the old scanslation groups I'd been keeping tabs on in the years gone by. Sadly, when I came across Yanime, I found out that the group was closing its doors...I honestly couldn't believe it. One of the best groups in scanslation was closing down. I read up on their last post, and apparently they were unfortunate enough to see most of their popular titles all get licensed at the same time, depleting their options of manga very quickly. The group decided shortly after to finally call it quits and go their seperate ways.
Seeing the group close down made me think of all the times in the past I'd gone to their site and gotten chapters to read, not ever thinking of the possibility that the place would close up, I mean, it was Yanime! Now, looking at the barren site, with no posts since May of this year...it just looks so dead...time really does bring all things to an end.
Sorry if I bore anyone, but I had to get that of my chest.
